The implantation of beads into the prostate gland, also called low-dose prostate brachytherapy or permanent brachytherapy, is an effective and well-tolerated minimally invasive treatment for early-stage prostate cancer.
In this treatment, small sources of radioactive iodine-125, also known as beads, are placed inside the prostate. Each bead is 4.5 mm long and 0.8 mm in diameter and emits a certain low dose of radiation to the surrounding prostate tissue, with the beads themselves placed evenly throughout the organ. Since the radiation is mainly localized around the radioactive source, it avoids damage to adjacent organs and tissues.

IsoCord®
IsaCord® is a source chain containing up to 70 grains and packaged in a radiation shielded cassette. It is composed of grains and separators and has an hourglass shape in a standard grain-separator configuration, secured by a braided monofilament. This special design ensures a secure anchorage in the prostate tissue and helps to reduce grain displacement. The IsoCord® is available with the I25.S06 or I25.S17plus source models.
IsoCord® needle charging station
From the IsoCord® needle charging station, the required number of grains is transferred from the cassette to the illuminated positioning unit. The IsoCord® chain is cut to the required length and then loaded into the attached implant needle with integrated mandrel. The process of cutting the chain and loading it into the needle is carried out under full radiation protection, without the need to perform these actions manually.
